Time's top people of 2007

Time magazine has announced its top people of 2007 and Jo Rowling made the list at #3, behind Vladimir Putin and Al Gore. The article features some new quotes from the author:"There have been times since finishing, weak moments," she says, "when I've said, 'Yeah, all right,' to the eighth novel." But she's convinced she's doing the right thing to take some time away, do something else. She's working on two projects now, an adult novel and a "political fairy tale." "If, and it's a big if, I ever write an eighth book about the [wizarding ] world, I doubt that Harry would be the central character," she says. "I feel like I've already told his story. But these are big ifs. Let's give it 10 years and see how we feel then."

Online retailer Amazon revealed Friday it was the mystery buyer of British author J.K. Rowling's first book since the phenomenally successful Harry Potter series.
"The Tales of Beedle the Bard" was sold at auction at Sotheby's Thursday to art dealers on behalf of an unidentified client for 1.95 million pounds (2.72 million euros, 3.95 million dollars), 40 times its expected price.
All proceeds from the sale of the handwritten single volume will go to Rowling's charity, Children's Voice, which helps vulnerable children across Europe.
Amazon has published editorial reviews of the book's content and photographs on its website, although it did not reveal if it would also make extracts from the book available.

Harry Potter Review

Harry Potter Review
With Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling has created a lovely conclusion to her astonishing seven-book series. Ironically, amid all the hysteria and hoopla, the rumors, the leaks, the overheated theories, Hallows provides a calm ending to a global sensation that has made millions of children and adults happy. But Hallows is a serious novel that traces Harry's inescapable embrace of adulthood with all its responsibilities, doubts and burdens. For this wizard, that burden basically involves saving the world.
The plot centers on Harry's struggle to lead the battle against the Dark Lord, Voldemort, now that Harry's beloved Hogwarts' Headmaster Albus Dumbledore is no longer with us.
Harry must wrestle with life's big issues: How should he define courage, whom can he trust, how much should he allow others — old friends like Ron, Hermione, Neville Longbottom, and Remus Lupin — to sacrifice for him? (Think Frodo in Lord of the Rings.)
